EI Overview
The EI Experience in more detail:

eiexpThis module introduces Emotional Intelligence – what it is and how it can benefit you. Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize your emotions, understand what they’re telling you, and realize how your emotions affect people around you. Emotional intelligence also involves your perception of others: when you understand how they feel, this allows you to manage relationships more effectively. People with high emotional intelligence are usually successful in most things they do.

For most people, emotional intelligence (EQ) is more important than one’s intelligence (IQ) in attaining success in their lives and careers. As individuals our success and the success of the profession today depend on our ability to read other people’s signals and react appropriately to them. Therefore, each one of us must develop the mature emotional intelligence skills required to better understand, empathize and negotiate with other people.

At anytime throughout The EI Exeperience you can choose to complete an EI assessment. Click on the assessment button in the top menu.

selfawareAwareness is the ability to recognize an emotion as it “happens”. Developing self-awareness requires tuning in to your true feelings. If you evaluate your emotions, you can manage them. The major elements of self-awareness are:

      • Emotional awareness. Your ability to recognize your own emotions and their effects.
      • Self-confidence. Sureness about your self-worth and capabilities.

Emotional awareness is crucial for success, whatever your role – if we cannot recognize how we are feeling we are at risk of behaving in demeaning, angry, or belligerent ways that will turn others off. Awareness builds the foundation for other skills of emotional intelligence. Awareness can be developed on several levels – cognitive, relational, somatic and environmental. This module examines these areas providing useful tools to help develop awareness.

reseThe ability to stay committed, feel in control and be challenged rather than threatened by stress is becoming more important than ever in today’s business environment of ‘doing more with less’, increased speed, deadlines, and managing multiple priorities. During this module we will be exploring personal resilience and how developing it can help you manage through difficult or stressful periods at work and improve your overall effectiveness. Personal resilience will help you remain positive and optimistic under pressure, improve your job and overall life satisfaction, and enhance your current level of performance at work.

motivationPeople with a high degree of emotional intelligence are usually motivated. They’re willing to defer immediate results for long-term success. They’re highly productive, love a challenge, and are very effective in whatever they do. To motivate yourself for any achievement requires clear goals and a positive attitude. Although you may have a predisposition to either a positive or a negative attitude, you can with effort and practice learn to think more positively. If you catch negative thoughts as they occur, you can reframe them in more positive terms—which will help you achieve your goals.

overview3Successful relationships are based on people being authentic and genuine. You show your authenticity through being open with your emotions and creating feelings of trust, understanding and empathy with others. This module examines how we approach difficult conversations or conflict and gives you a model to help you plan for and conduct crucial conversations in an authentic and honest way. We will explore the mindsets you bring to your conversations with others and provide you with new possibilities in the way you choose to deal with your colleagues, friends and family. The model is easy to put into practice and will provide you with an opportunity to experience a “real” conversation.

benefitsThe final module will look at happiness, well-being, the ability to feel satisfied with your life, enjoy yourself and have fun. As well, we will provide activities to examine ways to increase your well-being levels. The activities here utilise the goal setting process which you have undertaken in each of the modules to develop a plan for the future to ensure you continue to develop your EI and continue to enjoy the experience.
